We’re excited that you’re thinking about giving you-first banking a try!  We look forward to building a lasting relationship and partnership with you as you continue on your journey to a healthier financial well-being.Our Switch Kit will help make your transition to First South Bank fast and easy.  In three simple steps, you can move your account from another institution to First South, set up your automatic payments, and set up your direct deposits.  Let’s get started!



Step 1 

Open a First South Bank Account

  • Review information on our website and get familiar with our personal and business banking products. 

  • Visit your local First South Bank branch to discuss which products and services will best fit your lifestyle and/or business goals.  Your local team will help you open your account. 


Step 2 

Redirect your existing Direct Deposits and Automatic Payments to your new First South Bank account.

  • Use our organizer to help you track all of your deposits and payments during the switch.  This will help you confirm when everything has cleared the account you’ll be closing and are able to officially close your pre-existing account. 

  • If your employer utilizes Direct Deposit for your payroll check, you can use our Direct Deposit Letter to obtain the necessary information from them to change the deposit to your new First South Account

  • For Social Security deposits, please call 1-800-772-1213, stop by a local SSA office or visit godirect.gov

  • If you have additional deposits credited to your account, you should use our Automatic Deposit Letter and mail it to the institutions that are currently crediting the account you plan to close.

  • For automatic payments that come out of the account you wish you close, you can use our Automatic Payments Letter.  Simply fill it out for each applicable business and mail it to them so payments can be drawn from your new First South Bank account


Step 3

Close your previous account

  • WAIT for all of the checks you have written to clear your previous account.

  • BE SURE all of your direct deposits, automatic deposits and automatic payments have been successfully transferred to your First South Bank Account.

  • PAY OFF any remaining check overdraft protection balances at your old bank.

  • Once you are sure these steps have been completed, you can fill out our Account Closeout Letter and mail it to your previous banking institution.

Direct Deposit Letterthis letter is for your payroll check and should be given to your employer.


  • You will need to attached a voided check to this letter for your employer to successfully make the changes necessary.

  • Be sure to have the following information ready:  address of your employer if you’re mailing the letter, your previous account & routing numbers, and your social security number.

  • For Social Security deposits, please call 1-800-772-1213, stop by a local SSA office or visit godirect.gov


Automatic Deposit Letter – this letter should be used to redirect any automatic deposits other than your payroll check.


  • You will need to attached a voided check to this letter to successfully make the change.

  • Be sure to have the following information ready:  address of institution that directly credits your account and your previous account and routing numbers.


Automatic Payments LetterThis is letter is for automatic payments you have scheduled to be made out of your account.


  • You will need to attach a voided check to this letter for your employer to successfully make the changes necessary.

  • Be sure to have the following information ready:  address of the business that you pay each month, your previous account & routing numbers, and your social security number.


Account Closing Letter – This letter is to close your previous account.


  • You will need to attached a voided check to this letter.

  • Be sure that ALL of your written checks, Automatic Deposits and Payments have cleared your previous account before mailing this letter.

  • Be sure to have the following information ready:  address of the bank location of your previous account and both the previous and new account/routing numbers.
