More scams may be coming....
US-CERT, Federal Trade Commission, and Federal Emergency Management Administration are all warning about flood insurance themed robocalls. People are being contacted with claims that their insurance premiums are overdue. Most of the known scams are voice-based, but it wouldn't be a stretch to assume emails and texts are being used by criminals as well.
Since the criminals use bought or stolen phone lists, it is very possible that they will include people outside of the Gulf Coast, perhaps even targeting those in the path or Irma and Jose.
If you suspect fraud, you can call the FEMA Disaster Fraud Hotline toll free at 866-720-5721. You may also report suspected fraud to the Federal Trade Commission.
We urge you to be cautious and safe.
